The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) Country Director, Dr. Godwin Atser, visited The Center's Agripreneurs Incubation & Training demonstration facility in Abuja on 9th February 2024. He was received by The Centre's management team, led by the Managing Director, Dr. Chiji Ojukwu.
In a closed-door meeting with the team, Dr. Godwin explained the goal of SAA "to promote agricultural innovation and improve agricultural productivity across the African continent, transforming farmers into market-oriented producers being key to sustainable livelihoods. SAA empower farmers to think beyond subsistence, fostering economic growth and resilience".
Further discussions focused on potential collaboration topics between SAA and APDC Group such as:
- Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture: Advocating for biofortified crops and mitigating food contamination to ensure healthy futures.
- Regenerative Agriculture: Promoting sustainable practices to balance yields and soil health, learning from past agricultural revolutions to build resilience.
- Empowering women, engaging youth, and ensuring accessibility to agricultural initiatives for people with disabilities. To ensure equal opportunities for all stakeholders.
- Utilizing digital agriculture in agricultural outreach to provide farmers access to innovations, leveraging technology to empower farmers, and enhance productivity.
Following additional deliberations, SAA and Africa Projects Development Centre decided to strengthen their alliances and promote agricultural innovation. By pooling resources and expertise and collaborating on research and solutions for emerging agricultural challenges, SAA & APDC Group can better support youth and advance agricultural development across Africa!
As is customary for such visits, Dr. Godwin was given a thorough tour of the demonstration facility after the meeting. This visit marks the beginning of a promising journey towards a brighter future for African agriculture.
