Abuja, March 18, 2025 - The African Projects Development Centre (APDC) launched the third cohort of the EU-funded "Healthy Diets for Africa" (HD4A) training programme earlier today at the Abuja Living Lab. The HD4A initiative addresses Africa's persistent challenges of undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and rising rates of overweight, obesity, and diet-related diseases, collectively known as the triple burden of malnutrition. These issues not only strain healthcare systems but also hinder economic growth and development across the continent.
Over the next ten weeks, twenty-one carefully selected trainees will undergo intensive training at the Nigerian Living Lab. Guided by in-house specialists and leading nutrition consultants from esteemed institutions such as the University of Abuja Specialist Hospital and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), participants will gain practical knowledge and skills to drive change in Africa's food systems. The program launch featured guest speeches from prominent nutrition experts, followed by a detailed training overview by HD4A Nigerian Living Lab Project Coordinator Engineer Tinuadeji Kohol and an inspiring address from Monday Eteh, APDC’s Agripreneur Incubation and Training Lead.
"This program offers a unique and invaluable opportunity," emphasized Mr. Maaruf Yakub, APDC's Director of Programmes, Policy, and Partnerships, during his keynote address. "Beyond comprehensive training, it provides direct access to our robust mentorship program and APDC Marketplace—a gateway to connect with investors, gain market insights, and showcase innovative agroproducts and services globally. Africa's youth are critical in the fight against malnutrition. This program empowers you to lead that transformation. We expect you to network, collaborate, and push boundaries within the food system. Your fresh perspectives and energy make you best equipped to deliver solutions that will diversify food systems, improve nutrition security, and contribute to Africa's economic growth."
APDC remains committed to monitoring the program’s impact on trainees' lives, their communities, and the broader well-being of the continent.
Stay tuned for updates on the program's progress and impact.
